Series 2 News
Posted by Stephen on Wednesday, June 22 2005 at 5:12PM BST

As a result of the BAFTA screening that took place for The Parting of the Ways before it's broadcast, and the release of the new issue of DWM, more details have emerged about the 2nd series.

The final episode which hadn't been allocated a writer has been now given to executive producer Russell T Davies, which means he will write 6 episodes of the new series along with the Christmas Special.

Producer Phil Collinson has announced three of the directors for the 2nd series. James Hawes, who previously helmed The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, will direct the 1st block, which will include The Christmas Special along with two other episodes. Block 2 will be directed by Euros Lyn who directed The End of the World and The Unquiet Dead in the 1st series. Block 2 will have two episodes.

The director for block 3 is Graeme Harper who has previously helmed The Caves of Androzani and Revelation of the Daleks in the classic series. Block 3 will consist of four episodes from the 2nd series.

The 2nd series will see Billie Piper return as Rose Tyler for the whole of the series. John Barrowman will make an appearence in the 2nd series, but will apparently not feature until later in the series. The 2nd series will begin broadcasting in early 2006, but before that is the Christmas Special. This 60 minute episode will be written by Davies and will feature the first adventure for David Tennant as the Doctor. The title of the special is called The Christmas Invasion.

Other titles for the 2nd series include School Reunion written by Toby Whithouse, The Satan Pit by Matt Jones and Army of Ghosts by Davies.

The other news to come out of the BAFTA screening is that the show will return for a third series as well as another Christmas Special.
